Eating Out

There are some great places to eat in Devon and the following is just a brief summary of our favourites:

Take-aways

We recommend that our guests call Naz Indian Cuisine (01626 774786) and Hung Le Chinese (01626 773495) in Teignmouth. Visit Dawlish for Siew Mays for Chinese as well as Finn McCools (01626 774040) for traditional fish and chips.

Restaurants

Micheal Caine's at ABode on The Cathedral Green in Exeter is one of the best restaurants in the South West.  This is a perfect evening out and we suggest you try out the “tasting menu” to give you a really good feel for what the restaurant has to offer. (The Royal Clarence Hotel, The Cathedral Green, Exeter EX1 1DZ  Tel: 01392 319955)

The Conservatory in Exeter is a top rated Mediterranean restaurant offering a gastronomic grand tour of England and Europe within its romantic setting which guests rave about. (18 North Street, Exeter, EX4 3QS  Tel: 01392  273858)

Roedean Restaurant is a intimate dining experience offering beautifully prepared food with fine wines all presented with real flair. (The Triangle, Kenton, EX6 8LS  Tel: 01626 890195)

Pubs

Devon is home to some wonderful pubs who have extensive menus and local ales, these are our suggestions but there are many more.

Our most local pub is The Elizabethan Inn only 2 miles away.  Great food and it is what you would expect to see at a traditional Devon Pub: roaring fires in winter and a beer garden in the summer. (Fore Street, Luton, TQ13 0BL, Tel: 01626 775425)

Cockhaven Manor  offers a friendly atmosphere and locally sourced food as well as more exotic fare like bison and springbok.  (Cockhaven Road, Bishopsteignton, TQ14 9RF.  Tel: 01626 775252)

The Highwayman’s Haunt is a famous and highly recommended pub for good food and wine (Exeter Road, Chudleigh, TQ13 0DE.  Tel: 01626 853250)

The Nobody Inn has a staggering selection of 240 whiskies and hundreds of wines not to mention the best local ales. The pub has been in the good pub guide for all 25 years of publication. (Doddiscombleigh, Exeter, EX6 7PS.  Tel: 01647 252394)

The Clay Cutter’s Arms is a nice place for supper and does great food. (Chudleigh Knighton, Chudleigh, TQ13 0EY.  Tel: 01626 853345)

For a superb evening we rate The Rock Inn as one of the best in the land.  The pub was established in 1750 and has received an AA Rosette Award for Culinary Excellence every year since 1996. (Haytor Vale, Dartmoor, TQ13 9XP.  Tel: 01364 661242)

The Landsdowne also known as “The Lanny” has a big screen and is the best pub to watch the football on, regular live music, quizzes and darts and has 3 bars, a pool room and a sundeck (8 Park Road, Dawlish EX7 9LQ  Tel:  08714 329005)
